We have just come back from a week in the UK City of Culture, Hull for their very first children's literature festival, The Big Malarkey. We were there with our friends How Brave is the Wren and the lovely Megan to run school workshops based on the themes explored in the city's cultural programme.
We did between two and four schools workshops a day, making newspapers, building pop-up cards and creating stories based on famous Hull events, and generally doing our favourite thing: getting creative and having fun!
We had a lovely time meeting tons of happy pupils (and grown-ups too!), and were hugely impressed with everyone's off the charts creativity levels!
Here are some glorious examples of the newspapers that were created throughout the week: a mixture of hard hitting stuff such as "Ice Cream Turns Warm" or "Sheep Fight Back" to political rage "Theresa May the Devil" or beautiful memento to the City of Culture's events "Hull 2017 and... Banana News"!
A HUGE thank you to the wonderful Hull Libraries team, the City of Culture team and a special extra hug to the brilliant volunteers who helped us throughout the week. May this lovely and perfectly organized festival be the first of many!
