They’re here! Have you seen them?
Since the 2nd of July, there have been 50 beautiful, colourful benches sculpted to look like open books all over London.
These BookBenches are not just a higgledy-piggledy collection of wonderful books (though they are WONDERFUL books), oh no. Every story links to London in some way, whether it’s by plot, place or author.
Mary Poppins and Peter Pan. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and The Wind In The Willows. Stories by beloved authors from Lauren Child to Jules Verne, from David McKee to Lewis Carroll and Rudyard Kipling (not to mention plenty of classics for grown ups too).
As well as creating lovely places to have a little sit down and enjoy the city, Books About Town are putting on a number of literary events and activities for all the family. Visit their website here to see what’s happening next!
The BookBenches will be in London for the whole Summer, and then will be auctioned to the public on the 7th of October, with all proceeds going to the brilliant charity, the National Literacy Trust.
Personally we have our eye on the the Dr Seuss bench...
