Cereal Magazine Presentation
Anorak Magazine Presentation
My Mum is short so we couldn't see her much!
Last weekend, we hopped to Munich to take part in the fabulous editorial design conference QVED. We presented our happy Mag for Kids in front of an international audience of designers, art directors and editors. It was of course nerve-racking but also immensely fun!
Here is our experience, as seen through the eyes of O (13 years old):
"Last weekend, we went to Munich for a conference on magazines and creative stuff. Lots of publishers did presentations about their magazines, photographers showed us their latest projects and there were some historians too. Some of it was in German but we listened to the English translations on headphones, which was cool.
First we saw Cereal Magazine. I was a bit lost on that one, I thought it was a magazine about leaves as they had many on their covers. It only uses the colour grey. It was beautiful but I think one day, they should make one issue super colourful just for fun!
My favourite presentation was from a lady called Martina Wember . Her illustrations were great. She turned the letters of the alphabet into objects and animated them which was really cool.
A group of photographers showed their work and they were all very different. One photographer, Heiner Muller-Elsner, took pictures of statues using a drone, which was amazing. The one I will not forget is Sylwana Zymbura. She explained that she uses the human body to transform it into weird creatures and she doesn't even use CGI. I liked her imagination and creativity. She said something cool: "If it can be imagined, it exists."
The highlight of the day was meeting Michael Bojkowski, because he is really funny. He came all the way from Australia for this conference. We talked about how there seemed to be an unnecessary amount of Red Cross people around, looking really bored. I used my lanyard and badge as a hands free phone device and that made us laugh.
The conference finished with a talk by Jeremy Leslie from Magculture. He talked about all the great magazines out there and he made me laugh when he used a swear word in his presentation.
It was a great day, everyone was super nice and we had a lot of fun. The food was great, pretzels and schnitzels are my favourite German food so I was happy.
I would recommend that next year, they invite a football magazine, because I love football. But also because there are some great football magazines like Field and Eight by Eight that I would like to hear about."
A HUGE thank you to Jeremy, Boris, Katerina, Seval and Danni for inviting us and for the great organization!
